Abstract: This article aims to analyze the intersection between literature and cinema from the perspective of Comparative Literature, as outlined by Tânia Carvalhal (2006), focusing on the connections between the literary work Vidas Secas (1938), by Graciliano Ramos, and the film Mother! (2017), written and directed by Darren Aronofsky. The analysis is grounded in Ecocriticism—more specifically, in Ecofeminism and Félix Guattari’s theory of the Three Ecologies (1990)—to examine how these works reflect the relationship between humanity and the environment by articulating social, environmental, and psychological dimensions. In Vidas Secas, the arid landscape of the Brazilian backlands highlights the exploitation of natural resources (environmental ecology) and the marginalization of Fabiano’s family, particularly Sinhá Vitória, who is subjected to an oppressive patriarchal structure (social ecology). In parallel, the film Mother! (2017) offers a symbolic and multifaceted narrative in which the protagonist represents Mother Earth, a victim of male greed. This ecofeminist reading emphasizes not only environmental destruction but also its consequences on subjectivity and emotional balance (mental ecology). Through the dialogue between literature and cinema, the comparison between these works reveals the socio-environmental crisis as a reflection of a broader civilizational and subjective crisis. When used within the context of environmental education, such narratives can foster critical ecological awareness, encouraging reflections on sustainability, power relations, and social transformation
