Abstract: Playfulness in early childhood education is an essential element for the integral development of the child. Therefore, preschool is considered a stage marked by curiosity, imagination, and social interaction, where play is a relevant pedagogical resource to promote meaningful learning. This study aims to analyze the importance of play activities in the teaching-learning process in preschool, highlighting their contributions to the cognitive, social, emotional, and motor development of children. The methodology adopted is characterized as a qualitative bibliographic research, based on studies by authors who discuss early childhood education and the role of play in child development, such as Vygotsky, Piaget, Kishimoto, Wallon, and Montessori. The results indicate that playfulness favors the construction of knowledge, stimulates creativity, strengthens socialization, and makes the school environment more attractive and meaningful for students. It is understood that play should be seen as a planned and intentional pedagogical strategy, and it is up to the teacher to organize playful experiences that contribute to the integral development of children.
