Abstract: Given the need for professional and scientific education to satisfy both the social needs and the training needs of the participants in the educational process, there has been a fervent desire to propose and design educational models that guarantee both the competence of the graduates and their insertion in productive activities and the satisfaction of the needs of the aspirants. This article is oriented towards the conception of a model that considers the educational experience as an integral process aimed at human development, which should incorporate the physical, psychological and spiritual dimensions of the individual. First, having chosen activity theory as a conceptual framework, the principles of personal development from this perspective are presented. Second, the concept of competence as an expression of human development is developed. Third, it is proposed to study competencies in three dimensions: explanatory, transformative and evaluative. Fourth, the educational model is presented, establishing its principles, pedagogical strategies, implementation and evaluation.
