La Valoración Económica del Parque Nacional Mochima como herramienta de gestión para conservar sus bienes y servicios ecosistémicos

• Abstract: Mochima National Park, located 600 meters above sea level in northeastern Venezuela, covers a total of 94,935 hectares stretching along the coastline, featuring beaches of breathtaking beauty, many of which are virtually untouched, combined with a series of mountains. However, despite its protection status, the park is threatened by various factors such as the invasion of invasive species, the impact of mass tourism, and fires, which undoubtedly jeopardize the provision of the ecosystem goods and services that this park provides, as well as the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goals 15, 14 and 8. For this reason, the research carried out was framed within the design of a management plan through the economic valuation of these goods and services in order to rescue their importance in the conservation of the ecosystem and the sustainable development of local communities. Nineteen (19) ecosystem goods and services were identified, of which eight (8) were selected based on a set of criteria, with the availability of information being the most important factor. Based on this, an economic quantification of these resources was carried out, obtaining a total value of $238,184,778.5 USD, which made it possible to design a management plan structured around a general program and eight subprograms, establishing strategies for the sustainable use of resources, with indicators for monitoring and evaluation, which has an impact on the conservation of the entire coastal marine ecosystem -coastal ecosystem and its contribution to the local economy.
