Abstract: This academic article analyzes restorative justice as a complementary paradigm to the traditional criminal justice model, highlighting its theoretical foundations, guiding principles, and main restorative practices. The study examines the differences between retributive justice and restorative justice, emphasizing the importance of repairing harm, the active participation of victims, offenders, and the community, as well as the social reintegration of those involved in the conflict. Likewise, the paper develops the fundamental principles of restorative justice proposed by Howard Zehr, recognized as one of the leading scholars in this field. Subsequently, several restorative models are examined, including victim-offender mediation, family group conferences, restorative circles, and family group decision-making. Finally, the article analyzes the regulation of restorative practices within the National Law of the Comprehensive Criminal Justice System for Adolescents in Mexico, highlighting the legal advances represented by this legislation in consolidating a culture of peace and more humane mechanisms of justice administration.
