LA CASA MAESTRE. EL MODERNISMO PLENO EN CARTAGENA
La Casa Maestre de Cartagena supuso un hito en la arquitectura modernista de la ciudad,
además de suponer un antes y un después en el desarrollo de este importante movimiento
cultural y arquitectónico. El edificio fue encargo de D. José Maestre Pérez al arquitecto
Marceliano Coquillat y Llofríu, el que realizara diversos edificios modernistas en el ensanche
de Barcelona. Sin embargo, el proyecto está firmado tanto por Marceliano como por Víctor
Beltrí, y este último se encargó, además, de la dirección de obras.
El propietario, D. José Maestre, fue un importante personaje de la época, que llegó a
ocupar, entre otros, los puestos de Diputado, Senador, Gobernador del Banco de
España y Ministro de Fomento con Antonio Maura.
Por otro lado en el edificio se puede contemplar la impresionante estética modernista, la
calidad constructiva de su fachada, así como los magníficos interiores que aún se conservan
en su mayor parte, y en el que participaron las principales casas industriales de España.
Por todo ello, este trabajo intenta mostrar el trabajo de investigación realizado por los autores
para poder sacar a la luz aquellos datos sobre el edificio que son, hasta ahora, totalmente
desconocidos. Se analizará a los protagonistas del edificio, tanto arquitectos como principales
industriales, la calidad constructiva, la estética y ornamentación empleada, así como la
influencia del propietario en la vida social y urbana de la ciudad.

Abstract:
The Casa Maestre in Cartagena represented a landmark in the Art Nouveau architecture of the
city, besides of being and before and after on the development of this important cultural and
architectural movement. The house was commissioned by Mr José Maestre Pérez to the
architect Marceliano Coquillat y Llofríu, who built several Art Noveau builidings on the Eixample
of Barcelona. Nevertheless the project is signed for both Marceliano and Víctor Beltrí and the
last one was in charge of the works management too.
The owner Mr. José Maestre was an important figure of this period that became among others
Deputy, Senator, Bank of Spain Governor and Ministry of Development with President Antonio
Maura.
On the other side in the building you can see the impressive Art Nouveau aesthetic, the
construction quality of the facade, and also the magnificent interiors that are most of them
preserved and were made by the main industrial companies of Spain.
Therefore, this study try to show the work of research made by the authors to reveal those data
