LA CÁRCEL DE LA CIUDAD BLANCA. EL RÉGIMEN PENITENCIARIO DE AREQUIPA COLONIAL. (S.XVI).
Desde los primeros años virreinales, en la ciudad de Arequipa se originaron una serie de situaciones y acciones delictivas que fueron reprimidas por las autoridades reales. Al respecto, un tema poco tratado por la historiografía regional colonial son las instituciones de represión social del virreinato peruano; por ello, mi interés en la presente investigación histórica, sobre el funcionamiento de la Real Cárcel de la ciudad de Arequipa desde su fundación en 1540 hasta 1600, año en que erupcionó el volcán Huaynaputina y devastó todo el territorio originando una crisis con repercusiones económicas, demográficas, sociales y afectando la infraestructura, concretamente la cárcel, concebida como un lugar de transición o de espera de la sentencia.

Abstract:
From the first viceregal years, in the city of Arequipa a series of criminal situations and actions arose that were repressed by the royal authorities. In this regard, a subject little dealt with by colonial regional historiography is the institutions of social repression of the Peruvian viceroyalty; Therefore, my interest in the present historical research, on the operation of the Real Prison of the city of Arequipa from its foundation in 1540 to 1600, the year in which the Huaynaputina volcano erupted and devastated the entire territory, causing a crisis with economic repercussions, demographic, social and affecting the infrastructure, specifically the prison, conceived as a place of transition or waiting for the sentence.
