Influence of grinding of calcined kaolinitic waste on the properties of cement pastes

The present work aims at investigating the influence of grinding the calcined kaolinitic waste (CKW) on hydration, pozzolanic activity and microstructure of cement pastes partially replaced by it. The hydration of the pastes was studied by isothermal calorimetry and thermogravimetry. The cured pastes had their microstructure evaluated by XRD and SEM and their compressive strength was determined. The results showed that the CKW accelerated the hydration reactions and changed the microstructure of the cured pastes. The results were more expressive for the ground waste. The mechanical strength increased at the ages studied for pastes with ground CKW.
