ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION: ANALYSIS OF HOSPITALIZATIONS, DEATHS, AND PUBLIC EXPENDITURES IN THE STATE OF PARANÁ (2017–2023)
Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in Paraná, showing a slight decrease in the mortality rate from 2017 to 2023, but with an increase in deaths during the pandemic period. A significant disparity was observed among cities, with a predominance of deaths among men, a higher in-hospital mortality rate among women, and a more significant impact among the elderly. Additionally, inequalities in hospital costs were identified, which are concentrated in a small number of municipalities. These results demonstrate the need to improve care and reduce regional disparities.

Abstract:
Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in Paraná, showing a slight decrease in the mortality rate from 2017 to 2023, but with an increase in deaths during the pandemic period. A significant disparity was observed among cities, with a predominance of deaths among men, a higher in-hospital mortality rate among women, and a more significant impact among the elderly. Additionally, inequalities in hospital costs were identified, which are concentrated in a small number of municipalities. These results demonstrate the need to improve care and reduce regional disparities.
