Incidence rate of acromioclavicular joint dislocation in the Eastern Macroregion of Paraná: an epidemiological study

Acromioclavicular dislocation is a common injury of the shoulder girdle, especially in young and active individuals, and may require surgical treatment in the most severe cases. The present study aimed to analyze the incidence of acromioclavicular dislocation in the Eastern Macroregion of Paraná based on temporal, demographic, geographic, and healthcare-related variables. Data were extracted from the DATASUS/Tabnet system. Descriptive statistics, such as the calculation of absolute and relative frequencies of the variables, were used for the analysis. Hospitalization incidence rates were calculated per 100,000 inhabitants/year. In the trend analysis, linear regression was used to assess the trend in incidence (increasing, decreasing, or stable) over the years. The results showed Curitiba with the highest individual growth rate; the cities of Ponta Grossa and São José dos Pinhais with moderate upward trends; the municipalities of União da Vitória and Irati showed a trend toward epidemiological stability; Campo Largo was the only municipality with a notable reversal of trend; and the municipalities of Guarapuava, Telêmaco Borba, Campina Grande do Sul, and Paranaguá showed a slight upward trend. It is concluded that the overall increase in hospitalizations for acromioclavicular dislocation observed in the Eastern Macroregion of Paraná is driven primarily by large urban centers, while smaller or more isolated (rural) areas showed greater stability or control of the rates.
