TECHNICAL-ECONOMIC INDICATORS OF TOMATO CROP UNDER PROTECTED AGRICULTURE IN THE LAGUNERA REGION, MEXICO
El cultivo del tomate es muy importante debido a su elevado consumo como ingrediente
culinario y a su amplia adaptación a factores climáticos y edafológicos. México se
encuentra en el décimo lugar a nivel mundial y este producto es de las hortalizas de
mayor exportación principalmente a los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica. La Comarca
Lagunera destinó en el año 2020 una superficie al cultivo 984 ha bajo malla sombra con
una producción de 138 036 toneladas. Por la importancia económica y social en la
región, el objetivo fue determinar los indicadores de productividad del agua, suelo, mano
de obra y capital, lo que apoyará al productor a tomar mejores decisiones. Para realizar
el estudio se seleccionaron mediante muestreo sistemático cinco unidades de producción
bajo malla sombra que ocuparon el 50 % de la superficie total sembrada y por medio de
una encuesta se obtuvo la información necesaria, encontrándose que el valor promedio
de los indicadores fue de 11.9 kg de tomate por metro cuadrado; 54.3 kg de tomate por
metro cúbico de agua, y de 61.9 y 99.7 pesos los ingresos netos obtenidos por metro
cuadrado de superficie y metro cúbico de agua, respectivamente. Los mayores valores
fueron registrados por las unidades de producción de mayor tamaño, concluyendo que
este comportamiento obedece a la mayor economía de escala y mayor cuidado con que
se maneja el cultivo.

Abstract:
Tomato cultivation is very important due to its high consumption as a culinary ingredient and its wide adaptation to climatic and soil factors. Mexico is in tenth place worldwide and this product is one of the most exported vegetables, mainly to the United States of America. In 2020, the Comarca Lagunera allocated an area of 984 ha under shade mesh with a production of 138,036 tons. Due to the economic and social importance in the region, the objective was to determine the productivity indicators of water, soil, labor and capital, which will support the producer to make better decisions. To carry out the study, five production units under shade mesh that occupied 50 % of the total planted area were selected through systematic sampling and the necessary information was obtained through a survey, finding that the average value of the indicators was 11.9 kg. tomato per square meter; 54.3 kg of tomato per cubic meter of water, and 61.9 and 99.7 pesos the net income obtained per square meter of surface and cubic meter of water, respectively. The highest values were registered by the largest production units, concluding that this behavior is due to the greater economy of scale and greater care with which the crop is managed.
