Abstract: Motor Development (MD) can be defined as the set of fundamental and specialized motor skills necessary for physical-motor abilities. It is known that motor skills should be developed primarily in the first years of life, a period in which the organism is most susceptible to the evolution of these skills. With regard to Down Syndrome (DS), assisting children with this disability to improve motor skills is a key factor in engaging these individuals in various motor experiences aimed at their full development. Therefore, understanding the real benefits of early physiotherapy interventions in children with DS can provide relevant information for improving MD in this population subgroup. The present literature review study aimed to gather studies that investigated the importance of early physiotherapy intervention in MD in children with DS. Overall, the results of the studies reviewed indicated that the benefits of early physiotherapy interventions, provided they are adapted to the specific needs of each child with DS, proved essential in minimizing developmental delays and increasing autonomy. In conclusion, early physiotherapy intervention plays a crucial role in the MD of children with DS, providing significant functional, psychological, and social benefits.
