Abstract: This study analyzes the impact of corruption on the management of public resources and the socioeconomic development of Mozambique, seeking to understand how corrupt practices compromise the efficiency of public administration and the quality of services provided to the population. The work describes empirical evidence on corruption in the country, examines its effects on the management of public investments, and identifies economic and social consequences, highlighting the reduction of institutional trust and the exacerbation of inequalities. Corruption is addressed as a structural phenomenon that affects the functioning of institutions and weakens the State. In Mozambique, emblematic episodes, such as the hidden debts scandal, illustrate the dimension and impact of the problem, revealing violations of transparency and negative consequences for the country's external image and the well-being of the population. When public resources are diverted, the effects extend to essential services, especially affecting the most vulnerable groups. The methodology adopted was based on a qualitative approach, suitable for analyzing complex social phenomena. The study used an interpretative method of hermeneutic inspiration, allowing for an understanding of the meanings associated with corruption practices and the management of public resources. The main data collection technique was bibliographic research, involving the analysis of books, scientific articles, institutional reports, and studies from national and international organizations. The target population included literature and documents on corruption and public management, and the sample was selected based on the relevance, timeliness, and credibility of the sources consulted. The results demonstrate that corruption reduces fiscal space, distorts the allocation of resources, and limits priority investments. Consequently, the State's capacity to offer quality services is compromised, increasing inequalities and weakening social trust. Overcoming this scenario requires institutional reforms, greater transparency, citizen participation, and strengthening of oversight mechanisms.
