ICSI – Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection in Equines – A Literature Review

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a biotechnology applied in assisted reproduction in horses, in which it overcomes the barrier of inefficiency of in vitro fertilization showing better pregnancy results in the equine species. Biotechnology allows the use of high value-added semen that has low motility, it also allows the use of oocytes from old mares with high genetic value, or mares that have already died. The objective of this work was to carry out a review of the technique, and to show how efficient it is in the equine species, thus showing its advantages and disadvantages.
