HEREDITARY ASPECTS RELATED TO MATERNAL-FILIAL BEHAVIOR AND CALF SURVIVAL
The behavior displayed by the cow and the calf in the peripartum has a great impact on the survival of the calf, and therefore, on the productivity of breeding systems. Such behaviors depend on factors intrinsic to the calf, its mother's behavior, and environmental causes. In this article, a review of the literature concerning hereditary aspects of maternal-offspring behavior that impact the survival of calves is presented.
