Evaluation of Postoperative Pain Following the Use of Different Endodontic Sealers in the Obturation of Root Canal Systems

• Abstract: Endodontic treatment aims to eliminate pathogenic agents from the root canal system, making the choice of sealers essential to ensure proper sealing and prevent postoperative complications. This qualitative, quantitative, and observational study of endodontic treatment in patients used three different sealers to evaluate postoperative pain. Six patients requiring endodontic treatment due to pulp necrosis were treated. Anesthesia, access surgery, location of root canals, absolute isolation, irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite, odontometry, mechanized instrumentation, and drying were performed. The patients were then divided into three groups: G 1 (n: 2) – Obturation was performed using the thermoplastic technique and Sealer Plus sealer. G 2 (n: 2) – Obturation was performed using the thermoplastic technique and MTA Fillapex sealer, and G 3 (n: 2) – Obturation was performed using the thermoplastic technique and Endofill sealer. After the procedure, postoperative pain was assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), as well as analysis of the need for analgesics and the presence of clinical signs of inflammation at 24 hours, 36 hours, and 7 days. After the analysis period, there was no difference between the groups regarding postoperative pain and clinical signs of inflammation. This study concludes that the type of sealer did not influence postoperative pain or clinical signs of inflammation in the patients.
