Emergence of Mathematical Thinking in a Community of Older Adults

Esta investigación busca describir las prácticas matemáticas que posee una comunidad de Adultos Mayores a través de sus estrategias de  ahorro y compra, identificando y emergiendo así su pensamiento matemático soportado por el programa Etnomatemática (D`Ambrosio, 2012). Lo anterior se adscribe a una perspectiva émica que descubre cómo los actores categorizan, ordenan y organizan los fenómenos socioculturales y económicos en su mente, del cual emerge el Etnomodelo -que es un valioso dato primario de la experiencia sociocultural que genera transformaciones y variantes-.Así se logra que los actores ratifiquen sus contextos socioculturales.

  • Abstract:

    This research seeks to describe the mathematical practices that a community of older adults has through their savings and purchasing strategies, thus identifying and emerging their mathematical thinking supported by the Etnomathematics program (D`Ambrosio, 2012). The above is ascribed to an emic perspective that discovers how actors categorize, order and organize sociocultural and economic phenomena in their minds, from which the Ethnomodel emerges - which is a valuable primary data of the sociocultural experience that generates transformations and variants. This is how the actors ratify their sociocultural contexts.
