• Abstract: In this paper, the concept of activity is extended to the process of education of professionals and scientists, especially those related to veterinary medicine and zootechnics, with the purpose of influencing the curricular design of these educational levels.  The activity system is approached here, first, from a general perspective, presenting the elements that compose it and how their relationships give rise to the tasks that build it.  Second, each of the elements of the system is developed theoretically, with the intention of clarifying how they are constituted and fulfill their roles within the activity system and to give guidelines for their organization and integration in real systems.  Finally, the application of the model proposed here to educational activities oriented to the preparation of professionals and scientists in the health sciences and veterinary medicine and zootechnics is outlined. The fact that this document is oriented towards veterinary education is not intended to alienate any reader who does not feel any affinity with this or other related disciplinary fields.  On the contrary, because this profession is the broadest of the health sciences, it has lessons that could be adapted to all other professions and to other sciences and technical and even humanistic disciplines.
