Abstract: The aim of this study was to quantify the effect of the proportion of pollen in liquid suspension on the fruit set percentage and some physical characteristics of the fruit of the date palm cultivar Mejhoul, in the Mexicali Valley, Mexico. Liquid pollination was carried out during the 2021 growing season, where four treatments were used with 1, 2, 3 and 4g of pollen × 1L water (T1, T2, T3 and T4) respectively. Likewise, as a control treatment (T5), the pollination method currently used by the farmer was used. Five groups of two date palms each were pollinated, containing 12 bunches for each palm. Their fruit set percentages had a range of minimum of 43.95% for T1 and maximum of 68.68% for T4, while T5 presented a fruit set percentage between 52.02% and 57.56%. The results reveal that T4 induces the highest set percentage, suggesting that it could be an effective pollination method to replace the current one. Finally, in relation to physical characteristics, the fruit pollinated with T1-T4 did not present significant differences compared to T5, which suggests that liquid pollination does not induce any negative effect on the fruit.
