Abstract: This study aims to investigate the relationship between breastfeeding, gut microbiota, and respiratory health in early childhood, with a focus on the gut–lung axis. Through an integrative review of 10 scientific articles published over the past five years, it was demonstrated that breast milk promotes colonization by Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus, reducing the risk of asthma and infections. In addition, infant formulas are associated with lower microbial diversity and greater respiratory susceptibility. Finally, metabolites such as short-chain fatty acids play a role in pulmonary immunological modulation. Thus, it is concluded that breastfeeding is a fundamental strategy for the prevention of respiratory diseases, although alternatives such as probiotics and artificial formulas still require further research.
