Abstract: Hydraulic efficiency in irrigation systems is a key factor for rational water use and agricultural productivity. In this context, system maintenance, particularly preventive and corrective approaches, plays a fundamental role in reducing operational losses and improving system performance. This study aimed to analyze, through a systematic literature review, the effects of maintenance practices on irrigation system efficiency. The methodology was based on the selection of articles published between 2021 and 2025 in national and international databases, following predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results showed that preventive maintenance significantly improves water distribution uniformity, reduces operational failures, and enhances water use efficiency. In contrast, corrective maintenance, when applied alone, is less effective and associated with higher operational costs. It is concluded that the adoption of continuous maintenance practices is essential to ensure the sustainability and performance of irrigation systems.
