Abstract: Population aging represents an important challenge for healthcare systems, especially due to the increasing occurrence of falls among older adults, an event associated with physical, psychological, and social impacts that compromise the autonomy and quality of life of this population. Physiological changes resulting from aging, such as reduced muscle strength, balance deficits, postural alterations, and decreased motor coordination, contribute to greater vulnerability to accidents. In this context, physiotherapy stands out as an important preventive strategy, acting in the promotion of active aging, maintenance of functional capacity, and reduction of risk factors related to falls. The present study consists of a descriptive literature review conducted independently through searches in the SciELO, PubMed, ResearchGate, Refseek, and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases, using descriptors related to physiotherapy, fall prevention, and older adults. Articles published between 2019 and 2026, in Portuguese and English, were included. The analyzed studies demonstrated that resources such as kinesiotherapy, muscle strengthening, balance training, and gait reeducation promote improvements in mobility, body stability, and functional independence.
