LONG-TERM EFFECTIVENESS OF SLEEPY GASTROPLASTY IN THE TREATMENT OF MORBID OBESITY

Sleeve gastrectomy (SG), also known as gastric sleeve, is a restrictive surgical technique for the treatment of morbid obesity that has been gaining popularity, proving effective in weight loss and the management of comorbidities. This study aims to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of SG by analyzing weight loss, remission of comorbidities, and patients’ quality of life. This study was conducted as an integrative literature review, based on a search of the PubMed, BVS, and SCIELO databases, covering the period from 2011 to 2024, with publications in Portuguese and English. The results indicate that SG promotes significant and lasting weight loss, as well as improvements in conditions such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea. It is concluded that SG is an effective and safe intervention for the treatment of morbid obesity, with sustained long-term benefits.
