Abstract: This article analyzes the economic debate in the 19th-century Brazilian press, focusing on the Jornal dos Economistas (1882). The research investigates themes such as banking freedom, credit, and agricultural mechanization during a period of institutional transition. It traces back to the reformism of Domingos Vandelli (1735-1816) to identify the roots of Brazilian technical-economic thought. The study utilizes a pedagogical experiment (2021-2024) as a methodology to measure the contemporary reception of these concepts, correlating student ‘cognitive atrophy’ with the detachment from primary sources and the erasure of intellectual memory in the bicentennial of Independence.
