Abstract: This study examines the tension arising between constitutional ecocentrism and the applicability of Sumak Kawsay with respect to environmental protection and legal certainty in Ecuador, it proposes a Normative Utility Evaluation Matrix (M-EUN), which revealed the absence of verifiable criteria in judicial decisions. It concludes that the principle is more useful as an interpretative guideline than as an operational foundation, thus requiring additional constitutional safeguards against potential reforms that may threaten the rights of nature.
