Abstract: This research presents an analysis of the feasibility of implementing internal control practices in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Manaus, taking into account the structural weaknesses and managerial obstacles characteristic of these organizations. The central purpose of this research is to examine the extent to which SMEs in Manaus can incorporate internal control instruments as strategies to optimize risk management and governance. To this end, specific objectives were established: understanding the managerial reality of local companies, verifying the practical applicability of control and compliance concepts, and identifying obstacles and opportunities for their implementation. The methodological approach employed was qualitative, with a multiple case study design, involving interviews with 23 professionals from companies of different sizes and sectors located in Manaus. The data were analyzed using content analysis, enabling the identification of patterns, gaps, and successful practices present in the organizations investigated. The company selection criteria covered aspects such as minimum operating period, revenue, and sector diversity, ensuring sample heterogeneity. The conclusion is that the implementation of internal control practices is feasible and essential for SMEs in Manaus. The study proves that such practices, conventionally linked to large corporations, can be adapted to smaller business environments, contributing to improving governance, mitigating risks and strengthening organizational sustainability in regions characterized by low institutionality.
