• Abstract:

  The present work aimed, through the bibliographical review method, to show that conventional and molecular cytogenetics is one more of the instruments for taxonomic and evolutionary studies of neotropical fish. From the methodology used, which was divided into two stages, the first being the file and collection and collection of data and the second analysis and discussion of the results, three research used from cytogenetics in fish and whose results (indications The dynamics of the chromosomes may be involved in evolution and speciation) gave in to what was desired to show in this work: the assertion that the conventional and molecular methods of cytogenetic in the study of fish has much to add about the scientific knowledge of evolutionary biology and taxonomy of this group of vertebrates.
