Abstract: Introduction: Breastfeeding is one of the main strategies for promoting maternal and child health, providing nutritional, immunological, emotional, and social benefits for both the child and the mother. Despite the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the Brazilian Ministry of Health advocating exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life, early weaning remains a major challenge for health services, highlighting the need for educational strategies that strengthen the promotion, protection, and support of breastfeeding. Objective: To provide the scientific basis for the development of a flipchart as an educational technology to promote breastfeeding through a narrative literature review. Method: This is a narrative literature review conducted across a series of databases available via the Virtual Health Library (VHL), using controlled descriptors and Boolean operators to select studies relevant to the topic and aligned with the study's objective. Results: The literature showed that breastfeeding provides significant benefits for both mother and child; however, its maintenance is influenced by individual, social, cultural, and healthcare-related factors. Health education, particularly when conducted by nurses and supported by educational technologies, was found to strengthen maternal breastfeeding self-efficacy, increase mothers' knowledge, and contribute to the prevention of early weaning. Based on these findings, a flipchart was developed containing evidence-based information, accessible language, and visual resources addressing the main aspects of breastfeeding. Conclusion: The narrative review provided the scientific foundation for the development of the flipchart, demonstrating its potential as an educational technology to enhance health education practices, strengthen breastfeeding, and support nursing activities in Primary Health Care.
