Complications of reconstructive and aesthetic surgery of the breast: literature review article

• Abstract:

  In summary, the complications of reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery include risks associated with augmentation, reduction and mastopexy procedures. Although post-operative complications can occur, most patients reported satisfaction with the results obtained. Factors such as smoking, obesity, a history of breast cancer and genetic predisposition increase the risk of complications, including seroma formation, bleeding, hematoma, ischemia, necrosis, rejection of donor tissue and implant failure. Also noteworthy is the difficulty in detecting early failures in silicone gel implants, the rupture of which can trigger inflammatory processes, making surgical removal necessary.
