Comparison of barley lines and other cereal species by physiological and biochemical attributes of seeds

  • Abstract:

In the supply and demand of varieties among small grain cereals, it is necessary to have attributes that allow qualifying high quality seed to be successful in forage production. Lines of barley and other cereals were compared through laboratory tests, providing information on the physiological and biochemical attributes of the seeds. The lines G1, G13, G16, Cerro prieto and AN-366 (wheat) resulted in higher germination values, G16 and G1, Cerro prieto and Cuauhtémoc (oats) of vigor (accelerated aging), as well as G4 and GABYAN95 with high weight. seedling dryness and protein content (albumins), likewise, G16 and G18 in glutelins and gliadins; while oats in glutelins, but with low gliadins and albumins. Concluding that there is a positive relationship between albumins and seedling weight, the higher the content of structural proteins (albumins) the greater the vigor (dry weight), standing out G4 and GABYAN95 with high quality of seeds.
