Abstract: The electricity consumption growing in Brazil is demanding the expansion of Brazilians generation and distribution energy system. This need can be partially reduced by distributed generation alternatives, in which the generation is done close to the end customer. The cogeneration of heat and power can be classified as one kind of distributed generation since the electricity generated can be consumed by the own generator. This document presents the feasibility study of cogeneration in a combination boiler, operated at 21 bar with superheated steam at 350ºC, generating electricity within a back pressure turbine, releasing steam for heating at 8,5 bar. This process study has showed a significant economy, proving cogeneration system`s potential, in a way that further research could improve this work by developing the detailed installation design and detailed maintenance cost estimates. The proposal proved to be attractive from a finance point of view, once has resulted in a discounted payback period of 4,33 years.
