Abstract: The processes focused on improving the quality of education largely include evaluation. Acknowledged, emphasis has been placed on student evaluation. Still, for a comprehensive development of the process, it is necessary to evaluate and perfect each of the instances of the educational process. We specifically cope with teacher evaluation, reviewing its historical background, development, and significance, as well as the failures detected in each case. We propose options to be considered in the design of teacher evaluations, emphasizing the framework of higher education, and alerts about the possible risks of each form of evaluation are detailed. Some experiences and works on the subject carried out in Colombia are also reviewed, and possible alternatives are projected to improve this evaluation, always focused on improving the quality of the educational process as a whole.
