Abstract: An update of the fish species registered in the estuarine zone of Boca del Río municipality is presented, which includes the only protected reserve on the coast of Veracruz: Arroyo Moreno State Natural Reserve, in addition to the Jamapa River and the Mandinga Lagoon System (MLS); a bibliographic review was made that included undergraduate theses published in the last decade. The records include 41 families, 97 genera, and 147 species; the highest specific richness has been recorded in SLM (108 species), then Arroyo Moreno (69 species) and Río Jamapa (53 species). 15 families account for 76.35% of the species, the family Cichlidae was the most numerous were (12 species), Gobiidae (11 species), Poeciliidae (9 species), Gerreidae, and Carangidae (8 species). Microdesmus carri, Parachromis managuensis indicated as an invasive species and the exotic species Trichopodus trichopterus were the first records in the zone; marine species (95) were the most numerous, the specific richness is comparable to those reported for other estuaries and coastal lagoons of the Gulf of Mexico, but the 147 recognized species exceed the biodiversity of fish recorded for estuaries of the north and south of Veracruz.
