Assessment of Water Quality in the Barro Preto Stream Before, During, and After the Festa do Divino Pai Eterno in Trindade, Goiás
With the advent of monitoring technologies and tests, water quality monitoring has become an essential tool for decision-making, both in the context of public policy and in understanding the behavior of society. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the influence of the Festa do Divino Pai Eterno, held in Trindade-GO, on the water quality of the Barro Preto Stream, establishing a comparison before, during, and after the event. Four sampling campaigns were carried out at three points along the stream, analyzing the variables of color, turbidity, pH, total phosphorus, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, and the presence of coliforms and Escherichia coli, in accordance with the parameters of the Water Quality Index (WQI). The laboratory analyses were conducted in partnership with the company Saneamento de Goiás (SANEAGO). The WQI values ranged from 47.1 to 73.2, classifying the water predominantly as "Good," with occasional records of "Fair" condition. The results indicated concentrations of coliforms and total phosphorus above the limits established by CONAMA Resolution No. 357/2005. However, it was observed that the increase in population during the festival period had little influence on water quality, which remained virtually unchanged. It is concluded that the degradation of the Barro Preto Stream is more related to continuous urban pressures than to the temporary impacts of the event.
