ATUAÇÃO DO FISIOTERAPEUTA NA PREVENÇÃO DE QUEDAS EM IDOSOS: Revisão de Literatura

• Abstract: Falls are one of the main causes of mortality among the elderly, so maintaining functional ca pacity in the elderly population is essential. Physiotherapy is an important ally in this process,  from assessing the risk of falls to maintaining balance, functionality and strength. The objective  of the work was to identify effective physiotherapeutic approaches to prevent falls and improve  the quality of life of the elderly. This research is an integrative review of the literature, referring  to the area of gerontology physiotherapy, highlighting the concept and the most relevant  characteristics of the physiotherapist's role in preventing falls in the elderly. The data bases  used were: PubMed via MEDLINE, SciELO via Virtual Health Library and Scopus via  PORTAL CAPES, the inclusion criteria were articles referring to the topic covered, reports and  case studies, published between the years 2016-2024, already those excluded were all duplicate  articles, research published in years prior to 2016, texts of theses and dissertations. After  searching the databases, a total of 77 articles were found, following the criteria, 7 arti-cles remained to compose the review base. Most articles report that physiotherapeutic inter-ventions  were effective in preventing falls, as the professional pays attention to limitations, builds  individualized strategies for each elderly person and their evolution, thus the role of the  physiotherapist is essential, as the professional has the with the aim of guiding and preventing  falls in the elderly. It is concluded that the physiotherapist is essential and qualified to prevent  falls and improve the quality of life of the elderly.
