Abstract: Elderly individuals with chronic pain experience periods of intense suffering. Given the importance of this topic, the main objective of this study is to understand the psychodynamic aspects of elderly people who suffer from chronic pain. The sample was composed of 15 participants of both genders, aged between 62 and 90 years, with clinical diagnosis of chronic pain. It is a descriptive, exploratory and qualitative analysis of cross-sectional data. Initially the instruments were applied: a demographic questionnaire, then was held an interview the researchers worked out semi-directed. Were applied also the inventory of Attitudes front Pain (IAD-Brief) and the geriatric depression scale (GDS-15). The projective techniques were used: test the design of the House-Tree-Person (HTP), Desiderativo Questionnaire and The Senior Thematic Apperception Test (SAT). Projective tests were analyzed according to the parameters of each technique and the analysis of the interviews was used the technique of content Analysis of Bardin (2011). The partial results of characterization (n = 15) show that the population of this study is predominantly female (n = 14), aged 60 or more years (n = 15), widowed (n = 7) with complete secondary school (n = 6). We conducted a preliminary study, for which they were selected the results of a participant of the female gender, with 70, unmarried, with four training colleges, retired and who suffers from back pain and legs for over 50 years. As preliminary results showed that the participant has a strong belief that medicine may one day cure your pain, organicity, compensatory social domination, helplessness, loss of autonomy and conflicts relating to your body. To be better understood the situation of that group it is necessary that the instruments of the other participants are analysed and after these results be able to plot strategies for self care and psychological care.
