Abstract: The aim of this article is to reflect on how work has been changing as a result of the spread of entrepreneurship, flexible work and worker self-responsibility. Neoliberalism, the new guise of capitalism, has as its main symptoms the worsening of structural unemployment, as well as the precariousness of the formal jobs that remain and, even so, these have been harmed by a social, political and financial logic where equal opportunity for all is just a rhetorical allegory. As a result, people's living conditions are being driven down, reflected in the supply of jobs and training for the working class. A new type of collaborative leader, flexible and entrepreneurial, is in demand. They must be multi-skilled and compliant, know how to work in a team and have an “owner culture”, be adaptable, resilient and accept being easily hired and fired, according to the demands of a market in constant crisis. This paper is an excerpt from the dissertations in progress for a Master's degree in Education from the authors' Mestrado em Educação - Programa Processos Formativos e Desigualdades Sociais da Faculdade de Professores da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (FFP-UERJ). This is a bibliographical and documentary study, which seeks to analyze data on social indicators from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), and the research carried out by the University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ).
