Abstract: This article analyzes the prevalence of iron-deficiency anemia in infants, based on recent national and international scientific literature. Iron-deficiency anemia remains a serious public health issue, especially among children under two years of age, whose high nutritional needs are not met solely through breast milk after the fourth month of life. The research highlights key risk factors associated with the condition, such as prolonged exclusive breastfeeding without supplementation, inadequate complementary feeding, parasitic infections, social inequality, and flaws in public supplementation policies. From a comparative analysis between different regions of Brazil and other countries, the study reveals the need for integrated and sustainable strategies for prevention, early diagnosis, and nutritional follow-up. It concludes that combating iron-deficiency anemia in infants requires coordinated actions across health, education, and public policy sectors, focusing on maternal and child health promotion.
