• Abstract:

  This article is an exploratory study, deeply theoretical, supported by legislative, documentary and bibliographic sources. It intends to identify and characterize in an evolutionary way the social policy of care in old age, which emerged mainly in the Portuguese welfare state, trying to demonstrate some of its weaknesses. It analyzes the social responses aimed at the elderly and the new proposals adapted to Portuguese society in order to meet the needs of elderly people in need of care.
