Abstract: The treatment of bipolar disorder is challenging due tovarious factors influencing therapeutic adherence. This review addresses strategies to promote collaboration between patients and healthcare professionals, using an integrative literature review methodology. 25 studies were reviewed, selected from a comprehensive search in relevant databases such as the National Library of Medicine (PubMed) and the Regional Portal of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) of the Ministry of Health (MS). The results highlight the high prevalence of medication non-adherence, emphasizing the need for comprehensive interventions. Updated recommendations provide valuable guidance for bipolar disorder treatment, adapting to individual patient needs. Qualitative studies emphasize challenges in access and treatment adherence, underscoring the importance of family involvement. Innovative strategies, such as mobile applications and systematic nursing care, show promise in improving adherence. Collaboration among patients, families, and healthcare professionals is essential, requiring education and objective measures to assess adherence. This review underscores the need for integrated, patient-centered approaches to optimize bipolar disorder treatment. However, further research is needed to fill gaps in knowledge and clinical practice, aiming to enhance patient quality of life.
