Abstract: It is important to note that intellectual disability can manifest itself in different dimensions, which is why strategies and activities are required, accompanied by an appropriate methodology for each of their learning styles and rhythms. In this sense, the objective of the study was: to design a system of recreational activities for learning mathematics in high school students with intellectual disabilities of the María Buitrón de Zumárraga Special Educational Unit in the city of Portoviejo, Province of Manabí-Ecuador. The descriptive research was conducted under a mixed approach, because the phenomenal aspects of the state of mathematics learning were considered. To collect data, it was carried out through empirical methods, a group interview was applied to the teachers to collect and identify the recreational activities that favor the teaching and learning process. On the other hand, an observation sheet adapted to the students was applied based on the functional mathematics manual created by the Down Foundation of Chile. A comparison of the initial and final diagnosis indicated a considerable improvement in the students' performance, which was demonstrated by the use and evaluation of the playful activity system.
