• Abstract:

  The 1st Symposium of the Cellular Biochemistry and Biophysics Program: Advanced Topics in Metabolic Biochemistry brought together undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and faculty members with the aim of promoting scientific collaboration and the dissemination of research in biochemistry and related fields. The event highlighted recent advances in bioenergetics, intermediate metabolism, neuroscience, metabolic diseases, molecular and cellular biology, as well as outreach and scientific dissemination initiatives. This book of abstracts compiles the papers presented during the symposium, reflecting the thematic diversity and multidisciplinary approach characteristic of the PBBC. The studies range from basic research on energy metabolism, mitochondrial function, and redox regulation to translational applications in neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, inborn errors of metabolism, and innovative therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, the event also highlighted the importance of scientific communication and combating misinformation through educational and outreach projects. This collection represents not only a record of the scientific contributions presented but also a space for valuing academic training and critical thinking, reinforcing the role of biochemistry as a central pillar in understanding biological processes and in developing solutions to contemporary challenges in health and science.Periods
