Abstract: This study investigated the care provided by the Amazonas Military Fire Department (CBMAM) to suicide attempts between 2020 and 2024, with the aim of analyzing the impact of the absence of a standardized protocol on the effectiveness of interventions and proposing guidelines, based on institutionalized protocols of other military fire departments, adapted to the local context. The relevance of the research stems from the seriousness of suicide as a public health problem and the strategic position of military firefighters as the first responders in such occurrences. Methodologically, this is an exploratory-descriptive research, of a qualitative-quantitative nature, structured as a single case study. Institutional records and protocols from other fire departments, particularly that of the State of São Paulo, were analyzed, in addition to a bibliographic review. The results revealed flaws in data recording, lack of standardization, and inappropriate practices, such as releasing victims at the scene. At the same time, they indicate some progress after training part of the staff, as suggested by the increase in referrals to psychiatric hospitals. It is concluded that the adoption of a Technical Approach Protocol for Suicide Attempts, combined with continuous training and integration with the mental health network, is essential to improve CBMAM’s performance, reduce operational risks, and ensure greater protection of life. Furthermore, a gradual implementation of institutional measures is recommended to consolidate the technical approach model as a permanent practice within the organization.
