THE WAITING ROOM USED AS A SPACE FOR HEALTH PROMOTION IN FAMILY HEALTH UNITS

Introduction: Health Promotion is defined by the World Health Organization as a “community training process to improve quality of life and health, including greater participation in controlling this process”.  In this sense, one of the resources to develop actions aimed at promoting health is approaching the community in the waiting room while waiting for professional assistance, allowing access to the necessary knowledge to seek and maintain a better quality of life.

Objectives: To describe the benefits of Health promotion in the waiting rooms of family health units and highlight the importance of these practices.

Methodology: The search for articles was carried out from August to September 2020. The titles and abstracts of the works were read, excluding those that did not correspond to the general objective of this review, as well as theses, books and editorials.  During the accurate reading process of these articles, 16 works were considered that met all the inclusion criteria specified by the authors.

Results and Discussion: The waiting room is a dynamic territory, with mobilization of different people waiting for care.  The aspects related to the benefits related to health education practices using it as a means promote interaction between patients and health professionals, facilitating the bond and increasing the degree of reliability, resulting in greater adherence to preventive measures.  The practices provide participation, social responsibility, generate autonomy, change behavior and lifestyle.

Conclusion: The organization and development of the waiting room is a challenge, requiring intense preparation.  The waiting room environment gives the professional the opportunity to use it as a tool to provide humanized care, qualifying health services, where knowledge of the real needs of the population will be allowed, as well as the search for solutions for a better quality of life.
