THE IMPORTANCE OF BRAZILIAN SIGN LANGUAGE (LIBRAS) IN SHAPING THE IDENTITY AND AUTONOMY OF DEAF INDIVIDUALS IN THE CONTEXT OF THE “EDUCATING CITY”
This study investigates the importance of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) in shaping the identity and autonomy of deaf individuals, particularly within the context of cities that promote education. Our objective is to understand how Libras, when integrated into educational practices, contributes to strengthening social and educational inclusion. To this end, we conducted a literature review, examining the current state of knowledge, and searched for articles published between 2014 and 2024 in the CAPES Journal Portal and the BDTD. We found ten studies addressing topics related to Deaf culture and identity, but without a direct link to the concept of Educating Cities, which makes our approach even more original.
