THE HISTORIOGRAPHY OF POPULAR EDUCATION: THE BASIC EDUCATION MOVEMENT IN THE 1960'S
This article deals with popular education in Brazil in the 1960s. Throughout the text, we seek to highlight the creation of the Basic Education Movement, as a national project, as well as its structure, its objectives, the political clashes between Catholic Church and State and the challenges that this movement faced from the beginning of the military period. In this sense, we aim to present a historiographical discussion about the practices of the Basic Education Movement, as well as highlight its conceptions and tensions that occurred in the 1960s, especially from 1967 onwards.
