Abstract: The bibliographic approach to the perceptions of literacy and alphabetization, with a focus on Environmental Education (EE) in public schools, is a valuable tool for promoting the development of conscious citizens committed to environmental preservation. This approach enables students to explore different perspectives, updated data, and relevant materials, establishing a solid foundation for awareness and action toward sustainability. The bibliographic research revealed that the most frequently used conceptions were critical literacy and ecological literacy. Critical literacy is defined as the process of acquiring reading and writing skills that allow individuals to understand and critically interpret the world around them. Ecological literacy, in turn, is understood as the development of skills and attitudes that enable individuals to understand and act for environmental conservation. The relationship between literacy, alphabetization, and EE was addressed in different ways across the analyzed articles. Some emphasized the role of literacy and alphabetization in understanding concepts and ideas related to EE, while others highlighted their importance for active participation in EE activities. The findings indicate that the bibliographic approach is an effective strategy for fostering environmental literacy and alphabetization in public schools, creating a meaningful basis for awareness and action toward sustainability.
