THE CONTRIBUTION OF MUSIC THERAPY TO NURSING CARE FOR CANCER PATIENTS IN PALLIATIVE CARE

Cancer is a major global public health problem, especially in cases where a cure is not possible, making palliative care essential for promoting quality of life. In this context, music therapy stands out as an integrative practice capable of helping to minimize the physical and emotional suffering of cancer patients. The present study aimed to analyze the contribution of music therapy to symptom management in these patients, as well as its role in humanizing care. This is a qualitative, descriptive, and bibliographic study conducted through a review of scientific articles published between 2012 and 2026. The results show that the use of music helps reduce symptoms such as pain, anxiety, fatigue, and depression, in addition to promoting emotional well-being, comfort, and strengthening bonds between the patient, family, and healthcare team. It was also observed that music therapy acts on the limbic system, positively influencing emotions and contributing to the quality of life of terminally ill patients. It is concluded that the integration of music therapy into nursing practice enhances care, making it more humanized and comprehensive. However, the need for professional training and further scientific research is emphasized to ensure its appropriate and effective application in the context of palliative care.
