Abstract: An analysis of kinetic curves of the discoloration of a dye was performed under three different advanced oxidation processes that consider the use of ultrasound, ultraviolet light, and TiO2 catalyst: first, a process based exclusively on ultrasound was considered; later, ultrasound was used in the presence of TiO2; finally, in the treatment process ultraviolet light was also used in addition to ultrasound with catalyst (photosonocatalysis). For the analysis of the kinetic curves, two kinetic models were used, one that describes the discoloration of the dye as a first-order reaction, and another that considers that the kinetic curve includes both, the reaction of the original dye and also the subsequent reaction of the intermediate formed by the first reaction. It was found that of the two models considered, only the consecutive reaction model could satisfactorily describe the experimental data of discoloration. The kinetic constants were obtained by parametric adjustment of the data of each advanced oxidation process considered, and from their subsequent comparison, the potential to degrade the original molecule and those possible intermediates considered in the model were identified.
