A ATUAÇÃO DO AGENTE COMUNITÁRIO DE SAÚDE NA PROMOÇÃO DA SAÚDE NO CONTEXTO DA ATENÇÃO PRIMÁRIA À SAÚDE

O artigo analisa a atuação do Agente Comunitário de Saúde (ACS) na promoção da saúde dentro da Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS), destacando sua importância como elo entre os serviços de saúde e a comunidade. A pesquisa, de caráter qualitativo e baseada em revisão integrativa da literatura, mostra que o ACS desempenha funções essenciais como visitas domiciliares, educação em saúde, identificação de riscos e acompanhamento das famílias. O estudo evidencia que a APS, especialmente por meio da Estratégia Saúde da Família, é fundamental para promover ações preventivas e cuidado contínuo, indo além do tratamento de doenças. Nesse contexto, o ACS contribui diretamente para fortalecer o vínculo com a população, ampliar o acesso aos serviços e adaptar as ações de saúde às realidades locais. Entre as principais contribuições do ACS estão a promoção de práticas preventivas, a educação em saúde, a vigilância do território e a mobilização comunitária. No entanto, o artigo também aponta desafios, como sobrecarga de trabalho, fragilidade na formação continuada e excesso de atividades burocráticas, que podem limitar sua atuação. Conclui-se que o Agente Comunitário de Saúde é um profissional fundamental para a consolidação do SUS e para a efetivação dos princípios da integralidade, longitudinalidade e orientação comunitária, sendo peça-chave na promoção da saúde e na melhoria da qualidade de vida da população.

  • Abstract: This article examines the role of the community health worker in promoting health within the context of Primary Health Care, emphasizing their importance in strengthening the link between health services and the community, as well as in developing educational and preventive actions and expanding access to care. This is a qualitative, descriptive study conducted through an integrative literature review. The discussion is based on normative documents of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), the National Primary Care Policy, and studies investigating the work process of the community health worker in the Family Health Strategy. The analysis demonstrates that this professional functions as a link between the health team and the territory, identifying needs, monitoring families, promoting health education, encouraging preventive practices, and contributing to the development of responses more closely aligned with local realities. Furthermore, challenges related to work overload, weak continuing education, and changes in the work process are identified, without these factors compromising the central relevance of the community health worker in consolidating primary care. It is concluded that the role of the community health worker remains fundamental for health promotion and for the implementation of the principles of comprehensiveness, longitudinality, and community orientation within the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS).
